Hi! My name is Lily and I am the Marketing Coordinator here at Consign Couture. I am a recent graduate from Whitman College where I studied art and art history. I love using my creatively-tuned mind to solve all sort of problems, one of those problems being getting dressed in the morning.

Outfits that make me feel like me: prioritize all-day comfort, soft materials, and non-constricting. If I ever dress contrary to any of these elements, I usually spend the rest of the day thinking, “I wish I could go home and change.” In college, that’s exactly what I did; I tried many different styles that didn’t all feel great on my body, and regularly found myself changing my outfit 2-3 times a day between classes.
Something I learned recently is what “hygge” clothing style is – a Danish-inspired fashion trend that prioritizes comfort, warmth, and well-being. For someone who would rather feel like they are wrapped in a fuzzy blanket all day, this perfectly describes my fashion needs.
A place that taught me that dressing comfortable doesn’t need to look like athleisure or sweats with a baggy tee is my auntie’s store, The Study Club Mendocino. Erin has a wonderful collection of brands such as Lauren Manoogian (one of my favorites), Rachel Comey, Doen, The Great, and so many others that I used my niece privileges to play dress-up with. Eventually, those dress-up sessions where accompanied by the wonderful photographer Nik Z for The Study Club’s website.
Before my love for soft and comfortable clothing started, as a small child I generally refused to wear any clothing and was near-naked 80% of the time. Fortunately for me, the only rule in my preschool’s dress code was “must be wearing underwear at all times.” Come elementary school where clothes were required, I would only wear pajamas and other loose/soft items that would barely touch my skin. Jeans and other stiff/confining garments were out of the question.

My grandmother, a hoarder of cashmere sweaters, would frequently wash her sweaters incorrectly and they would shrink to a size suited for a six-year-old girl. Knowing I would only wear soft clothing, she gifted me her shrunken sweaters. Soon, the bottom drawer of my dresser was overflowing with shrunken cashmere and I refused to wear anything else.
As an adult, my fashion sense has definitely matured (I will now wear jeans), but my obsession with cashmere has maintained and love for soft and loose clothing developed. A few favorites in my closet consist of cotton and circle skirts from thrift and consignment stores, a pair of soft flowy Skin pants I bought from my auntie’s store, and a pair of Lisa Yang cashmere pants I recently purchased from Consign Couture. While many of my favorite items are still arguably pajamas or loungewear, I pride myself in being about to style those items in a way appropriate for coming into work, going out to dinner, or almost anywhere else.
(Un)fortunately for me, at Consign Couture we make an effort to prioritize natural fibers and pieces we know will last their new owners a long time. My closet has both shrunken from items I have consigned, and grown from some fabulous pieces I couldn’t pass up on.

Here are some pieces that we have in-store that I am currently fantasizing about getting for myself.

I have recently become obsessed with the Nike x Every Stitch Considered collab, of which this amazing leather/suede jacket belongs to. Paired with this flowy skirt from The Line by K which basically makes it feel like you are wearing nothing, I have a very difficult time letting these items go.
Jacket – Size M Tall, $320
Skirt – Size M, $94
Freda Salvador creates art for your feet in the most comfortable way. These woven leather red flats are the perfect item to either elevate a basic outfit or throw on for a formal event where you don’t want to worry about a pair of heels hurting after 30 minutes. Y’all are lucky they are too small for my tall girl feet because otherwise, I would probably buy them before they even hit the floor.
Size 9.5, $138

A controversial option, but I am a big fan of a cotton dress over a pair of loose-fitting jeans. While I will now wear jeans, I am not opposed to unbuttoning them halfway though the day which a dress does a good job at concealing. This one from Reformation is 98% organic cotton and a subtle pastel green – perfect for Spring!
Dress – Size M, $68
If I have the option to wear a skirt or flowy pant, I will definitely take it. This pair, new with tags from Boden, is great for Spring-Fall. I am a big fan of an earthy-toned outfit which these thicker cotton pants are perfect for.
