The rise of italian fashion
One look around our store at Washington Square and it’s easy to see the dominance of Italian designers on the world of high fashion today. But this wasn’t always the case! Italian fashion rose to global prominence in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, thanks in part to the post-war economic revival of the Italian textile industry, and in part to Hollywood’s growing interest in Italy with films like Roman Holiday (1953), La Dolce Vita (1960) and The Godfather (1972). These conditions combined to create a boom in the Italian fashion industry, (as seen in the photo above!) and the rest is history.
