Sustainable summer tip: Portland’s Low-Waste StorEs!
In the last few years, we have been thrilled to see package-free and low-waste shops popping up in Portland. This summer is a great time to pay these shops a visit and try out incorporating them into your shopping routine.
The Realm Refillery:
This package-free grocery store on NE Broadway is a one-stop shop! The store is stocked with fresh produce, bulk groceries and kitchen, laundry and bath/body essentials. But this isn’t your average bulk section with dried beans and pastas: The Realm carries pantry classics from tortilla chips and kettle corn as well as luxurious floral bath salts, lotions and other beauty products – all in bulk. Bring your own container to fill, or use one of theirs. They even sell ice cream in glass jars that can be washed and reused, along with a selection of fresh breads and pastries.
Mama & Hapas: With locations on N Mississippi, SE Stark, and a third location coming soon, Mama & Hapa’s is making low-waste shopping easier than ever. At their refill shops, find a rotating selection of home cleaning products and bath essentials in bulk, as well as items like toothpaste and deodorant in recyclable, bio-degradable, and low-waste packaging.
